Farewell Chicago | Timelapse Video

May 11, 2018

This is my last week in Chicago. I made this timelapse video as a farewell to this beautiful city, before I head to the Golden State. Here's how I made this video:

  • I shot the entire footage with a smartphone camera (Moto Z2 Force). I captured individual frames as a sequence of full-resolution pictures then converted them into a video. I used the following script as an intervalometer: ADB Intervalometer Script.
  • I used a very basic flexible tripod and further stabilized the video in post-processing.
  • I used a bilateral filter for spatial smoothing and a median filter for temporal smoothing. This helped reduce the noise, particularly in the low-light scenes.
  • Finally, I did some color grading and levels adjustment for a cinematic look.
